The volcano was crowded but worth the hike. The warm mud felt good going on and coming off. Make sure you wear shoes with good traction that you dont mind getting muddy or wet. You might want to consider a swim suit that is dark in color as the mud is black and could stain.
Awesome views. The 2 Mountains are definitely a sight to see. There are tours/trails up on one that we will do… $100+.
Be prepared to give your lungs a real workout. I am in okay shape and play squash and work out. I made it to the top but just barely. Make sure to bring lots of water and a backpack to carry it. We made it to the top in about 2.5 hrs and down in 55 mins. Of the group of three of us we left one guy at the first bench one half way at the second bench and my guide and I made it to the top.
There is a very cool little Rasta stop right at the top that you can get a beer or juice for $5 USD for a beer but worth the stop. Good shoes and a change of clothes if you sweat a lot. If you need a taxi to take you ask for Tony – lived in Canada for 25 years from the island and is very interesting.
